The wild larkspur (Consolida regalis, synonym: Delphinium consolida) is an annual plant belonging to the buttercup family (Ranunculaceae). It is a plant of moderate nutrient-rich, calcareous, moist, sandy clay, the type is there for between winter wheat. The plant is native to western Asia and Europe. In the Netherlands, the only plant in South Limburg and is often confused with wild delphiniums, but it is distinguished by the bare tube fruit. The species is on the Dutch Red List of plants as very rare and very much reduced in number.
The plant is 15-50 cm high and has a hairy stem. The 1-5 inch long leaves consist of linear slip.
The wild delphinium blossoms from June to August with mostly light purple, 2 cm wide flowers. The five sepals are the same color as the petals. The upper sepal has a 1.2 to 2.5 cm long track. All linear bracts are undivided. Inflorescence a raceme.
The result is usually a bare fruit box. The seeds are poisonous.
