Features
Germer are strong, perennial crops, the vertical rhizomes form as Überdauerungsorgane. The rhizomes are covered with the remains at the top of the leaf sheaths. The stems are simple and leafy.
The leaves are numerous, arranged in spirals, from broad-elliptical shape, up to 15 cm wide. They are folded lengthwise, multicore and narrowed at its base sheathing.
The inflorescence is a many flowered panicle. The individual flowers are hermaphrodite, the upper sometimes male. The tepals are spread out, not grown, from white, greenish, reddish-brown or black color.
There are six stamens and three separate pens. The fruits are Vielsam dreifächrige capsules.
The basic chromosome number x = 9 The plants contain a wide range Cerveratrum and Jerveratrum alkaloids.
Dissemination
The species is widespread in the northern hemisphere.
